Recording Review

Session 2 : Sunday 1st February

Yesterday's recording session was less successful than Saturday's. Again our group met up near Friern Barnet but this time with time we were accompanied by two additional college students who will also be in our film. We chose a different location for the recording of these shots and went to Coppice Woods.
We began by recording a Pan shot of the forest area from the entrance, As shown below.

We then reviewed the shot to ensure we were happy with it and able to use it successfully in our film.
From there we moved on to recording the shots requiring actors. At this point Matthew began to direct the group, as he was the only one recording, the rest of us were acting. He begun by directing Heather to walk towards the entrance of the woods, as if she was making her way home. We took a number of takes for this shot because we wanted to allow ourselves options for which shot would fit in our film and be the most effective.

We then moved on to recording the shots where Heather is being chased through the woods by the other three actors who are playing gang members. Successfully recording these shots took a lot of retaking of the shot and re-organizing the actors. At first Matthew instructed us to run in the same direction Heather, but as he didn't elaborate on the way in which he wanted it done our first recording was not successful, we weren't running as a group. Matthew then gave us a formation to run in and stick to throughout the film. After trying this formation and recording again, I was very surprised to see how realistic the shot had become. Once we were happy with this we decided to move forward.

This picture shows the formation we were set to run in whilst recording.

Unfortunately we were only able to record one more shot, which was the a low angle shot showing the feet of each character running through the woods. After recording this shot Matthew noticed a considerable change in the lighting and decided it was time to use the dido light.
We made are way to another area of the wood in order to record our over the shoulder shot of Heather taking a picture of the group, We were sadly brought to a halt as we did not have the correct power supply for the dido light. We attempted to use a number of torches to emit the same effect as the dido light but this was unsuccessful as the light from the torches were not bright enough. For my group this meant that we had to stop recording for the day, With a number of shots still yet to record my group decided it would be best to re-group in college and decide on another day and time to record. This is still yet to be arranged but we will do a full production schedule to organize this plan.
