19. Garageband

Garage band to create a soundscape:

-New project (loops and movie)

Loops:

-Name projects
-Make sure it saves to video drive(somewhere safe)
-Temp and key or song

Garageband opens up:

-Build together sounds to make a timeline
-Search by instruments or mood or both
-Search a key word, gives you all the sounds in the library
-Click it and it plays(in preview window)
-When you find one you like, click and drag onto timeline
-Hit space and it will start to play once on the timeline
-If you hear metronome, turn off at the bottom

-To extend a sound
-You could copy and paste it OR press the loop symbol, click and drag and it will extend

Add another sound for depth:

-Find another sound in the library
-Drag onto the place below your first sound(click loop and drag out if needed)
-Space bar to play all
-You can turn library into list mode.
-If sound overpowers other sounds you can turn down the sound on the left hand side( adjust volume levels)

Fading sounds in and out:

-Click drop down menu, activate volume levels, little green lien appears on timeline, click it and you can alter the sound levels and fades in and out throughout the timeline ( make sounds a little less sharp).

Adjust tempo:

-Make things sound slower or more sped up, window at the bottom, click up and down buttons until you hit the key temp signature, drag temp up or down to increase or decrease.

ONE IMPORTANT FOLDER

-Go to all folders, scroll down and find foley, click it and it is full of all sound effects and dubbed sounds ( means we don't have to go out of our way to make our own all the time)

-Export project: share at the top, export song to disc, hit export, gives you a place to save it and puts it wherever you chose to save it as a sound file.

One more handy thing:

Movies:

-Name projects
-Exact same window opens except it states drag movie here.
-Drag movie into the timeline
-It will convert into a preview window
-So its useful when building sound around a clip
-If you want the preview window bigger you can click it and it comes out

We don't want the original sound so we need to delete it:

-Click sound, backspace and it deletes it
-We have the entire garageband library to add our own sound, click and drag sounds in the same way
